I say cash the check and THEN go back for the rest. She does sound evil though. Maybe $150 isn't such a high price to pay for avoiding the unknown. I'm glad the you're so happy in your new place.

In general, I find that punching people in the face is ALWAYS the sensible thing to do. Or at least it seems like it is most of the time...

I have to laugh a little bit at this, because it sounds exactly like a nasty breakup - which it apparently was! You just cut your losses and run. And I'm definitely not one to criticize. I would have done the same, and recommended the same. (In fact, I think I really have actually done the same...to much more dinero than $150. And I was in grad school at the time, too.) Congrats on having your life back!!!!

I've discovered that the other plus side about being out of there is that I don't worry about the house burning down and losing everything I own. At least not as a result of people who actually live there.

I agree. It's easier to cut and run sometimes than sticking around to deal with everything. Kudos for closing the chapter on it.

Yay for your emancipation! And remind me to tell you about an ex-roommate of mine -- he sounds a bit like your old one.

You're very right. Sometimes it's easier to just cut your losses and move on for the sake of your sanity.
