When Coasts Collide

Posted By Phil on July 5, 2008

This picture is about a month old, but since I took it right before I jumped on a plane and headed back to Albuquerque, I feel justified in its taking a while to surface and for me to post it.

It seems that the east coast and the west coast have churches that are in cahoots. This sign hails from Northridge, California, on Balboa Street.

  1. There are a few churches in my hometown that are known for their remarkably cheesy signs out front. One of them said this phrase last summer.

So yeah, it’s in the midwest, too.

  2. “Screaming ‘Oh God!’ in the bedroom does not count as prayer”

That was what I was greeted with one day by the church sign around the corner.

  3. You can add the midatlantic to that list. I saw one a few years back that was exactly like that. That church always posts funny things, but I’m never in a good position at a red light long enough to take a picture.

  4. Hm.. some of those billboards just make me scratch my head.

    A lot.

I am, admittedly, an atheist though.

  5. Wow, seems we’ve all seen similar slogans! Makes me wonder if there’s some sort of church marquee quote club that phone conferences four times a year or something.

  6. I have a weakness for cheesy church signs. My favorite one was ‘Wal-Mart isn’t the only saving place.’

  7. My fave? ‘Stop, drop and roll doesn’t work in Hell.’

Thank you, random Tennesseean Baptist church. I’m a Christian, but I get a kick out of the random things church signs sometimes say…

  8. Knee mail? Seriously? Tee hee!

  9. It’s the local Lutheran Church who is the offender of cheese mail on marquees in my neighborhood. Kneel and deliver!
